TENETS OF COACHING
The following tenets are guiding principles of my coaching practice. I apply these principles in all the work I produce, including one-on-one sessions, masterclasses, group work and retreats.
I believe coaching is an empowerment process that leads you to greater choice.
You can see exponentially more choices in front of you when space is created to empower new beliefs and ideas.
I believe that coaching unlocks potential that’s always been inside of you.
A collaborative, heart-centered coaching relationship unearths the stories, beliefs and values that created who you were. Once unearthed, you have the chance to catalyze a new way of being in your world.
I believe you are inventive, expansive and whole.
I also believe you are not broken. You do not require to be fixed.
I believe coaching is a process of self-directed learning and personal growth.
Coaching is a collaborative, solutions-focused, and systematic process that maximizes personal and professional potential.
ETHICAL IMPERATIVES
I am committed to upholding the highest level of integrity in my coaching practice. It’s imperative for me abide by the guidelines for coaching set forth by the IFC and The Association of Coaches.
This means I understand that in order for clients to do the work of coaching they require to feel safe, heard and understood. I do this by creating compassionate space, by normalizing their experience, doing no harm, never judging their lives or inserting my opinions/influence. This approach is what’s often missing in clients lives and it’s extremely important to me to ensure the sanctity of this process as a way for clients to feel safe enough to grow and change.
Importantly, I stay present to the needs of my clients and seek external support as needed. In this way, I stay within the scope of my practice as a coach.
Conscious of those helping service provides who create unhealthy bonds with their clients, I am dedicated to coaching my clients into a place where they don’t depend on me to do their work.
My practice is lead by the process of deep, active and conscious listening and asking powerful questions. I only challenge clients when it’s in support of the goals they’ve outlined.
Equally as ethical is for me to acknowledge that as a white man raised in an implicitly white supremacist society, I am doing my work in dismantling my racism. I pledge to donate my services to underserved populations as a way to make coaching accessible to everyone. I pledge to call out racism when I see it. I commit to studying and learning about my whiteness and to do less harm.
